Idea for Presentation

For my presentation, I plan to look at how 3-D virtual worlds can help create a better sense of imagination for individuals to apply to the real world. Plus, how it can help for businesses, school, employment with using different applications. Also look at the development over the years of the virtual world development. Perhaps to specifically look how virtual world development can connect to urban studies and the GIS (geographic information system) program where digital technology is used for community planning. For what other majors is 3-D virtual technology is used for as well. Is this good or bad for our younger generations since it can disconnect people from the real world? Or is it a better ideology for people to create a world where they have control to perhaps doing it because they have the expertise to do so? Even video games influence people to imagine and create the worlds they want to fantasize in such as fairy tale or war scene settings? I do want to look at community planning in how 3-D virtual world applications can help create a community with all the parts that are needed to become a community. This project would benefit me very much since to get a sense of what GIS is like and how virtual world can be similar. To be honest, I am a little afraid of the GIS program because it will be an intense technology program although I am very grateful to represent women and women of color as well.
